Described as a “natural diva”, Sibongile Mngoma will be performing live at the Joburg Theatre, in Braamfontein, on Friday 25th April. The performance is part of the Lion of Africa Music Expressions concert series.
Sibongile’s call to singing started from a young age at the University of Cape Town. She studied towards a BA degree focusing on her passion for drama. That was the beginning of Sibongile Mngoma’s purpose – she knew she wanted a place in the music industry.
The artist had the opportunity to perform for legendries of the world such as the late former South African President Nelson Mandela and the Queen of England. Sibongile has also had the opportunity to sing at historical places such as the Royal Albert Hall, the Colliseum in London, opera houses in Switzerland and performed at the inauguration as well as farewell dinner of the governor of the South African Reserve Bank, Tito Mboweni.
With her interest in composing and arranging music, the artist produced her debut album titled A Glimmer of a Hope in 2004, which was nominated for two SAMA awards.
Sibongile is a firm believer in teaching and passing down the skills and knowledge which she has acquired in her music career. That has encouraged her to be a voice teacher and host musical workshops for upcoming singers in the east rand township, Katlehong.
“Lion of Africa Music Expressions prides itself on being part of such a remarkable event that promotes local talent in the music industry. All it takes is for corporate companies to invest and nurture the amazing talent which South Africa has to offer,” says Rethabile Mahuma, Head of Marketing at Lion of Africa Insurance.
Tickets are available at www.joburgtheatre.com for R150 each.
